FAFSA or CASFA?

text

FAFSA, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, allows students to apply for federal student aid such as federal grants, work-study funds and loans. Completing and submitting the FAFSA gives students access to the largest source of aid to help them pay for college or career school.

In addition, many states and colleges use FAFSA information to determine eligibility for state and school aid. Some private aid providers may use FAFSA information to determine whether you qualify for their aid.

How To Prepare for the 2025–26 FAFSA® Form

Prepare now so you can complete the 2025–26 FAFSA form. Here are some ways you can get ready:

1: Create a StudentAid.gov account (if you don’t already have one).

2: Learn about the documents you may need to fill out the FAFSA form.

3: Determine your dependency status and whether your parent(s) or spouse will be required to contribute information on your FAFSA form.

4: If you’re a dependent student, use the Who’s My FAFSA Parent? wizard to identify which parent(s) will be a required contributor on your form.

CASFA, the Colorado Application for State Financial Aid, is the state financial aid application for undocumented, Colorado ASSET students.

The purpose of CASFA is to determine the need for financial aid awards for students historically excluded from receiving state and federal financial aid. CASFA positively supports families and is a logical next step in efforts to erase equity gaps and put college in reach for the families who benefit most from a postsecondary education.
