DENVER – May 24, 2022: The Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative board approved 66 proposals that provide $4,971,190 in scholarships for Colorado students.

This investment is part of COSI's Matching Student Scholarship Program which helps under-resourced students by matching community scholarship dollars one to one. This round of funds will serve approximately 2,900 students attending in-state public institutions of higher education across Colorado.

"These awards represent 54 counties and 12 institutions of higher education around the state, reaching students that need these scholarships the most," said COSI Board Chair Tim Fry. "It's exciting to know that more than $14.8 million will go to students who may not have thought higher education was within reach. That's the true power of COSI, leveraging partnerships and dollars so students can realize their dreams."

The scholarships are multi-year awards ranging from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on program and financial need. Most students receive the scholarship within the next two to four years.

With an earlier round in funding from the fall application round, COSI has awarded a total of $7.4 million for the 2021-2022 fiscal year to foundations across the state. When combined with matched funds it will result in more than $14.8 million for scholarship programs.

The 66 awards from this application period represent 54 counties ($4,114,137) and 12 institutions of higher education ($757,053).

About the Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative

The Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative (COSI) was created to increase the attainment of postsecondary credentials and degrees for underserved students. The project addresses this challenge in two ways: accessibility and affordability. To increase accessibility, COSI funds programs that will help prepare students for postsecondary education, as well as support them through completion. To increase affordability, COSI provides matching funds for community scholarships.
